Two teams of Australia's best Under 19 cricketers will face off in the BBL Pathways Curtain Raiser at The Gabba on January 5.

The match will see the Ponting XI - made up of 11 members of the World Cup squad - play the Gilchrist XI - which features three members of the World Cup squad, plus eight players who recently represented Australia Under 19s against Pakistan in Melbourne.

It will be played ahead of the Brisbane Heat's home game against the Perth Scorchers.

The match will commence at 12.15pm local time, and will be live-streamed and free to view via www.cricket.com.au and the Cricket Australia Live App.

This is the second year of the match, which was played at the SCG in 2017.

In the inaugural contest, the Ponting XI beat the Gilchrist XI in a final-over thriller.

World Cup squad vice-captain Will Sutherland was the final-over hero, while Jack Edwards and Jason Sangha also impressed in the win against a Gilchrist XI which had strong performances from Param Uppal and now Victorian Bushranger Will Pucovski.
