All-round athlete Courtney Webb has steered the Perry XI to a 23-run win against the Lanning XI in the inaugural Rebel WBBL Under 18 Exhibition match at the MCG today.
Currently based in Melbourne, the Tasmanian hit four boundaries in her innings of 49 off 43 balls while Saskia Horley was also impressive, hammering 29 off just 19 balls to help boost the Perry XI’s total to 6-141.
Queenslander Renee Irvine as best with the ball claiming 2-26, whilst captain Rachel Trenaman claimed 1-22 off her four overs.
Horley continued her good day out claiming the first wicket of the Lanning XI innings, clean bowling Lucy Cripps (0) before fellow opener Tahlia Wilson was also dismissed (6).
Trenaman (20) and Irvine (30) combined to keep their side in the hunt before Webb (1-15) struck to remove the dangerous Trenaman. New South Wales spinner Isabelle Afaras (2-28) and Hannah Darlington (2-4) then ripped through the Lanning XI’s middle-order leaving them needing 62 runs off the last five overs.
The continued loss of wickets made the going tough, and despite the best efforts of Zoe Griffiths (19 off 9 balls), the Lanning XI could only reach 8-118 in response.
